Dear Colleagues,

The EMBO Workshop "Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs): biophysical characterisation and biological significance" (http://embo-iup.enzim.hu/) will take place on May 20-24, 2007 in Budapest, Hungary, at the Central European University (CEU) Conference Center http://www.ceucenter.hu/.
Registration at our website is already open.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers and students in Europe and across the world in order to share results and concepts in the novel and rapidly developing field of protein disorder (intrinsically unstructured/disordered/unfolded proteins). We intend to focus on various aspects of IDPs, by presenting and discussing recent developments in their bioinformatic and structural characterization, and assessing their physiological and pathological significance.

Invited speakers are listed in the comments.

Important dates:
Deadline for application: Feb 28th, 2007
Deadline for abstracts: March 10th, 2007

news group: Literature Achtung! Free Access to The RNA Word, 3rd Edition;  some chapters from the 2nd edition
18.09.2006 17:58  Ig           top of the page  comments: 1
Dear RNA Scientists,

The Third edition of The RNA World is freely accessible on-line, courtesy of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press. Here's how to find it. Log into http://rna.cshl.edu. If it's your first visit to CSHL Press, you'll need to register, which is quick and free. If you're already registered, just enter your e-mail address. You will then see the sentence "Click here to view the Table of Contents", after which you can click on individual chapters. You can also access the chapters from the second edition (1999) that are not rewritten in the third edition; most of them have stood up very well to the test of time.

One hint: printing the chapters of The RNA World III straight from the Web page is inefficient. You get only a narrow strip of text on each page. But if you select the text and paste it into a Word document, it's extremely efficient: you can print the equivalent of two pages of the book on a single page.

Sincerely,

Ray Gesteland, Tom Cech, and John Atkins, editors

The conference will deal with all branches of pure and applied biospectroscopy. Main topics will include:

* Application of optical spectroscopy (UV, CD, Raman, SERS, IR) and imagery to different biosystems

* Multidimensional spectroscopies

* Biological systems analysed by neutron scattering and synchrotron radiation

* Magnetic spectroscopies (NMR and EPR)

* Biomolecular dynamics within different time-scales

* Single molecule and/or single cell spectroscopies

* Theoretical approaches used for analysing biomolecular systems

* Spectroscopic applications in medicine (diagnosis)

* Applications in nanobiotechnology, micro-arrays, biosensors, lab-on-chip

* Spectroscopic applications in pharmaceutical and food domains

You will find as an attached file an announcement poster which you can display in your Department/Institution. We will be pleased to send, upon request, a printed and larger one to your postal address.

We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this message and remain

We are pleased to invite you at the 2nd Eastern European Conference on Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs, entitled “FOSTERING RESEARCH ON RARE DISEASES IN EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES” (www.conf2006.raredis.org).

The conference will be carried out on 8-9 September 2006 in the beautiful town of Plovdiv (Bulgaria) under the auspices of the Bulgarian Ministry of Health. It is organized by the Information Centre for Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs - a project of the Bulgarian Association for Promotion of Education and Science.

This event is a logical continuation of the very successful First Eastern European Conference on Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs, which took place on 27 May 2005 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The aim of this first and very important conference was to raise governmental and public awareness in Eastern Europe on rare diseases and orphan drugs. All presentations are available online (www.conf2005.raredis.org) in video and PDF form giving free access to all interested parties. Up to know, the conference website is accessed by 2 800 unique visitors from more than 80 countries!

Now, we have decided to invite researchers and teams from Eastern Europe to present their research on rare diseases and orphan drugs by oral presentations and posters. The scientific committee consists of prominent scientists with extensive experience on the topic. A special panel session with invited speakers from leading EU institutions will increase the knowledge of attendees and will present to them the best European standards and practices on rare diseases research.

Participants from Eastern European countries with scientific paper/poster could apply for a fellowship. Presented papers/posters will be published in full text after the conference.

Scientific papers about all rare diseases and rare forms of common diseases will be considered!

The BioMail program does not work anymore, because the PubMed now offers the analogous service. We strongly recommend you to switch to it. Another possibility is to use the BioMail program on the web site http://www.biomail.org/ .

To set up your PubMed e-mail alerts, you should perform the following steps:
(1) visit the PubMed web page: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/ ;
(2) click the "register" link in the right upper corner of the page;
(3) fill in a short form: username, password and e-mail address (in a few minutes you will get a message from PubMed with a web link to confirm your registration);
(4) perform the search with selected keywords and click the link "Save search" (to the right of the search window);
(5) the question "Would you like to receive e-mail updates..." would appear in a small window, select "Yes" as an answer;
(6) select the e-mail alerts parameters (time intervals, etc) - and that is it smile.gif
